About the Artist

the abridged version
R. Lubow was born in Norwalk, Connecticut which is a community within Fairfield County that sits on the shores of the Long Island Sound.
He studied at Silvermine College of Art
He also studied at Columbia-Avery school of Architecture
He was the chairman of the art department at St. Luke’s School in Connecticut for grades 7 through 12.
He left teaching after three years to design and install Japanese gardens in the Connecticut and New York area while still creating artworks.
In 1981 he moved to Madison, Wisconsin to set up his home/studio creating works of art and working with architects, corporate art consultants and interior designers to place his work in hospitals, corporations and fine homes. Within a year he had also created a monthly publication called “the art marketing letter which helped artists with the business side of an art career. (He sold it two years later to another publisher.) He also established an annual art marketing conference for visual artists that was co-sponsored by the SBA and the local university.
He left Madison after five years to move to Palm Beach, Florida where he sold all of his artwork off and dropped out of the art world to peruse another career path. He went back to school to become a board certified in Hypnotherapist and opened an office for private practice and then grew that into a national seminar provider of over 150 self-help and self-healing seminars around the country each year.
After ten years the need to self-express through creating art became too strong to ignore and he came back into the art world creating minimal style water features for hospitals, hotels and homes and then moved to the Ouachita mountains in Arkansas.
Presently, he is working on this new series of paintings that he considers the best work of his life. He says, “it took me fifty years to be able to create this work”. It is the accumulation of experience, wisdom, insight, maturity, and his nearly life long interest and study of Buddhism/Taoism aesthetics and philosophy.
